Could this be the new benchmark for South African chardonnay? Wonderful refinement , concentration and sophistication. Half the price of top white Burgundy and just as good.
Crystallum Wines is a boutique wine operation started in 2007 by brothers Peter-Allan and Andrew Finlayson, third generation wine producers and sons of South Africa's Pinot Noir and Chardonnay pioneer, Peter Finlayson. They are situated in the cool Walker Bay region, on South Africa's south coast around the town of Hermanus in the Hemel en Aarde valley. The cooler climate here ensures a longer growing season and a greater accumulation of flavour, which makes the region the most exciting in South Africa for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Wine Maker tasting notes ~
Light gold in colour with an exuberant, peach and lemon on the nose, with barrel-fermented characters of butterscotch and spiced apples. On the palate it is rich and buttery, but with an attractive cool-climate freshness and minerality which lifts the rounded, creamy fruit. Long and silky on the finish.
